Indoor Referee Certification Criteria and Requirements For Indoor Competitions

In Manitoba, individuals wishing to referee indoor soccer must be approved or selected by the Manitoba Soccer Association Referee Program in order to take the Indoor Referee Certification course.

Previously Certified Outdoor Youth Referees who wish to be considered should contact their District Referee-in-Chief prior to September 1st to express their interest in being nominated to take the Indoor certification course.

Previously Certified Outdoor Senior Referees from the MSA official list of Referees who wish to be considered should contact the MSA Referee Department at referee@manitobasoccer.ca by September 1st.
1. Previously Certified Youth and Senior Outdoor Referees
Officials from District Club who wish to become certified in order to referee youth indoor matches must be nominated for consideration by their District Referee-in-Chiefs who will submit the candidates' information to the MSA Referee Program.

A minimum of two outdoor seasons as a district referee while officiating on a regular basis is required prior to consideration as a potential candidate. Individuals must be 16 years of age or older, special permission can be granted for those who turn 16 during the outdoor season.

Officials on the MSA Senior List of Referees can contact the MSA Referee Department directly to express their interest in becoming a certified indoor official.

First year referees on the MSA Senior List of Officials are not eligible. In order to be considered, referees must have completed at least 20 centre referee assignments in the past outdoor season, and 40 centre referee assignments over the previous two years.

Should a candidate be accepted by the MSA Referee Department, they must pass the indoor certification exam as well as complete the course in order to be assigned to youth indoor matches. Details on course requirements will be provided seperately to those selected to take the course.

Selected Candidates will be contacted by the MSA Referee Department with course information and registration procedures.

4. Previously Certified Indoor Referees and Certified Senior List Outdoor Officials Wishing to Referee Indoor Half Field Soccer Competitions

2019-20 Indoor Season Requirements

All previously certified Indoor Referees and previously certified Senior List Outdoor Referees must attend the Indoor Refresher course in order to be eligible to referee in the half field competitions for the upcoming indoor season. As the half field competitions will have rules similiar to outdoor soccer, we will be permitting existing outdoor Senior List officials who don't normally referee the quarter field indoor format to referee half field matches this winter.

The Indoor refresher will cover a review of both quarter and half indoor formats for youth and senior soccer. Individuals will need to be present for the entire session.
